Tooth extraction

When teeth are severely decayed or fractured beyond restoration, become loose due to periodontal disease, grow impacted or misaligned (commonly wisdom teeth), or when there is overcrowding and insufficient space for orthodontic treatment, certain teeth with the least functional importance may be indicated for extraction to avoid affecting neighboring teeth.

1. What Is Tooth Extraction?

Tooth extraction is a dental procedure that removes a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. Modern tooth extraction techniques provide an effective and quick solution to remove unwanted or problematic teeth.

Step 1: Examination and Consultation

First, the dentist will examine and evaluate the tooth that may require extraction. If the tooth can still be preserved, we will advise you on the most effective treatment options to restore its appearance and function instead of extracting it.

Step 2: Dental X-ray Imaging

Once extraction is confirmed, dental X-rays will be taken to assess factors such as: the number of roots, possible abnormalities that may complicate the extraction, and the proximity of the roots to important structures such as nerves or blood vessels. This is an extremely important step to ensure your safety.

If any abnormalities are detected, you may be instructed to undergo a Cone Beam CT scan (3D imaging) to accurately identify surrounding anatomical structures. This helps prevent unwanted complications such as nerve damage or sinus perforation.

Step 3: Tooth Extraction

After reviewing the X-rays and anticipating possible difficulties, the dentist will determine whether you need a surgical extraction (for severely impacted or misaligned teeth) or a standard extraction performed directly in the dental chair.

To ensure a comfortable and pain-free experience, effective local anesthesia is essential. However, if you have cardiovascular conditions or allergies to certain anesthetics, please inform your dentist immediately so the most suitable anesthetic can be selected for you.

Once the anesthesia takes effect, you should no longer feel pain. At this point, the dentist will use professional techniques to gently remove the tooth.

3. Important Aftercare Instructions

After tooth extraction, proper care plays an important role in helping the extraction site heal quickly and minimizing discomfort:

  • Bite firmly on the gauze as instructed by your dentist to help stop bleeding quickly.
  • In some cases, medication may be prescribed. Please take all medications exactly as directed.
  • Avoid disturbing the empty tooth socket by touching it with your tongue or fingers, rinsing or spitting forcefully, or chewing food directly on the extraction site. These actions may cause bleeding to restart.
  • If you experience anything unusual or concerning, do not hesitate to call or visit hiDental immediately. Our team is always ready to care for you attentively and professionally.

By understanding the tooth extraction procedure at hiDental, we hope you will feel more comfortable and confident when receiving dental care with us.

At hiDental, we are fully equipped with all necessary imaging systems, so you do not need to visit another facility for X-rays. To help you save costs, dentists usually begin with simple and affordable 2D imaging before recommending additional scans if needed.
