Occlusal Splint
Occlusal Splints at hiDental:
Once your condition has been accurately diagnosed, the dentist will recommend the most appropriate treatment option. At hiDental, there are two main types of occlusal treatment: TMJ pain treatment and occlusal splint therapy.
Occlusal splints are commonly prescribed for patients who suffer from teeth grinding (bruxism). Nowadays, many people experience teeth grinding during sleep or clenching their teeth while concentrating at work. These habits are often caused by stress from daily life and work. Over time, they can lead to serious consequences such as:
- Severe tooth wear
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
- Overworked jaw muscles resulting in morning jaw pain and fatigue
While it is often possible to train yourself to stop clenching your teeth during periods of concentration, stopping teeth grinding during sleep is much more difficult. To address this issue, an occlusal splint is used — a custom-made plastic appliance worn over the teeth while sleeping. The splint helps relax the jaw muscles and joints while also protecting the teeth from excessive wear caused by grinding.
Each occlusal splint is individually designed according to the patient’s bite relationship. Therefore, it usually takes approximately 2–3 appointments to fabricate a properly fitted splint customized for you.
Modern life often comes with increased stress and overwork, leading to a rise in occlusal disorders and TMJ-related conditions. If you notice any signs of bite-related problems, visit hiDental for an examination and receive timely consultation and appropriate treatment.
